‘Choreographer Marjani Forté’s SHE WHO: Frida, Mami & Me investigates the life, mythology, and characteristics of Mexican visual artist Frida Kahlo and Nigerian deity Mami Wata. The work spurred a nuanced, multicultural dialogue between Activist Dance Theater CONTRA-TIEMPO and the African American choreographer. In collaboration, the artists traverse the turbulent waters of protest, feminism, resilience, and identity through these earthly and mystic beholders of culture. SHE WHO: Frida, Mami & Me features costume design by David Reynoso and lighting design by Tuce Yasak, and was presented as part of the Ford Theatres’ 2016 summer Signature Series in August 2016.’
